<h3 style="color: white; font-size: 16px; background-color: #611a1d; padding: 4px;">Adult Christian Formation: The Life of Dietrich Bonhoeffer</h3>
<p><strong>Beginning March 4, 2012 - 9:15 a.m.</strong><br />Over the next weeks, beginning March 4, we will be exploring the life and writings of Dietrich Bonhoeffer. &nbsp;<br /><br />Bonhoeffer was a German theologian who lived in the first half of the 20th century. From the first days of the Nazis, he was a leader of the resistance. He was a founder of the Confessing Church in Germany which was formed to avoid the intrusion of Nazism into the established churches. Already imprisoned for his work, documents were found linking Bonhoeffer to a failed attempt on Hitler's life, which led to his execution just a few days before the fall of Germany at the age of only 39. He lived an extraordinary life and left an important body of work.<br /><br />Bonhoeffer is honored by the Episcopal Church on the church calendar on April 9. His close friend, Bishop George Bell of the Church of England, a supporter of the German resistance who is a major figure in this story, is honored on October 3.<br /><br />We will be using material from the 2010 biography of Bonhoeffer entitled <em>Bonhoeffer - Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy</em> by Eric Metaxas, published by Thomas Nelson.
